Upton Community Wood

Upton Wood is found on the eastern edge of Upton, Dorset. The Wood was previously part of The Llewellin Estate and has been owned and managed by Purbeck District Council since 2004.

The site covers approx six hectares and is split into four compartments for management purposes. Two of the compartments have been designated as Sites of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI) for wet and dry heathland species, as well as mixed wooded areas.

There is a network of tracks and paths throughout the site and two drainage ditches run horizontally from west to east.

The wood is managed for the quiet enjoyment of residents and visitors to Upton, and to protect and enhance the site's wildlife value.

A new Management Plan has just been written which prescribes work to be carried out between 2008 and 2013. Download the Plan from the Management and Volunteering page.
