Upton Community Woodland Group

Wildlife

Currently, only small amounts of wildlife have been noted within the site, however it is seen as a valuable refuge for local birds, mammals and insects, as the site is bordered by a dual carriageway, main road and three housing estates.

Butterfly species noted within the wooded areas are speckled wood, holly blue and green veined white. Birds noted include buzzard, wren, blue-tit and wood pigeon. A roe deer has also been spotted, which undoubtedly crossed over the dual carriageway from Upton Heath on the other side.

The management plan which is currently being updated includes possible measures to increase and encourage wildlife into the site by digging a nature pond which will provide necessary open water and installing bird and bat boxes for nesting
